2K Games sez… Your Brother Should Buy His Own Copy of BioShock
I have just lost a ton of respect for 2K Games. Now, it’s well known that there have been plenty of complaints regarding 2K Games and the secuROM system, which essentially limits how many times you can install a game. Some have been outraged by this (*cough*) while others don’t see the big deal. For the record, the big deal is this: I’ve installed Star Trek Voyger: Elite Force roughly a dozen times on my various machines. If secuROM was included with that game, I’d be boned x11. Now that you unnderstand why some people are so pissed about this, let’s move on.
2K forum-goer “Nemesisdesignz” posed a very interesting question on the 2K Tech Support forum. While his question may be a bit crude, it’s still a valid question:
I installed Bioshock on my laptop under one admin user, Everything works fine, but I then tried to switch users on my computer and whenever I launch Bioshock it is asking me to enter my serial again for the game…. IS THIS GONNA CHARGE ME TWO OF MY 5 Activations???? IF SO THAT IS GAY…. I need to know this ASAP before I attempt to play this on my pc under the other user… THis is a bug if the case be….so get yo stuff fixed!
It’s a good question. After all, if you own a PC and a high-end laptop, and you want to be able to play BioShock on both, you shouldn’t be charged with having to install the game you own twice. Likewise if you have two people on different Windows accounts using the same machine. But here is where I lose respect for 2K. Read their response, from 2K forum Moderator “2k Tech JT”:
The other way to view this, is one USER has purchased the game. Not the whole family. So why should your brother play for free?
…that’s just bullshit. If I buy a game, and want it on two seperate Windows accounts on the same machine, I should be able to do exactly that. This idea of limiting installations to counter-act piracy, while having good intentions, has turned into nothing more than a screw job for those who actually went out and purchased the game. If 2K wants my money, they are SOL, and until this kind of BS is stopped, I urge all of you to say the same.
UPDATO MAGNIFICO!
It’s 2:45am. I don’t know why I’m up, especially when I have English at 8am. Regardless, I go to check my inbox, and I have this message from 2K Games:
Please note that the forum moderator has been incorrectly quoted as a 2K employee. The individual, “JT Tech 2K” works for an outside tech support group and is not an employee of 2K. Additionally, 2K is investigating the validity of the post.
…good. I guess this just means that this “JT Tech 2K” fella either A.) was playing the devil’s advocate, or B.) is a douche bag. Only time will tell.

I have already spoken by not buying this game, as awesome as it is! As a 360 user the copy protection isn’t what got me (though it is lame) I was ticked about the 4:3 systems getting larger viewable screen area than me on my widescreen setup.
Luckily I have gamefly to let me borrow it for a week so I can beat it, then I am putting my spending money on my own copy of SKATE!
