We’re #2! We’re #2!
In my world, “second place” is just code-speak for being the first loser. Either way, Microsoft didn’t quite win the March sales war against Nintendo and Sony… ok, Nintendo crushed Microsoft, who itself crushed Sony.
Nintendo topped the March charts with 238,000 units sold (just the Wii), with Microsoft coming in second with 199,000 units, and Sony a somewhat distant third with 130,000.
Microsoft can still hold onto the good news that they continue to hold the overall lead in the console wars, with nearly 10.5 million units sold. Nintendo is second with 6.6 million units, and the the Playstation 3 is in third with 2.8 million units sold. To give you perspective, more people own the Sega Dreamcast than they do the PS3.
This shouldn’t worry Microsoft too much — Nintendo IS Nintendo, and frankly, Microsoft wasn’t aiming their sights at Nintendo when they launched the 360. We’ve done what we wanted — we’ve crushed Sony. Now that they are no longer a threat, Microsoft can focus on how best to combat the rather addictive little gimmick that is the Wii.

I agree. The Wii is a gimmick. I can’t imagine that the sales will last through the summer. Most people I know who have gotten a Wii now regret it. The games library is a joke (unless you’re in the 2-8 year old demographic), the graphics look horible, especially when coupled with an HDTV, and even the controller is now seen (by them) as more of a joke than anything. I can see how Nintendo has started out of the gate so quickly, but once it is realized that the system is a joke, it will quickly fall off.

Wii is a stupid gimmick, but its cheap and most people are stupid too (hence the rise of hip-hop culture, George Bush, drug use) so I am not surprised it is selling well. White trash and black people dont own HDTV’s or money so they go with the cheap system.

ArKiLe: That is perhaps the dumbest god damn thing ever uttered at this site. I’ll agree that the cheaper cost makes it more appealing, but to try and paint it on “white trash and black people” just screams of ignorance.
