New Skate Screenshots
You know, ever since Tony Hawk reared his ugly head back in 1999, every major video game publisher has been trying to get a slice of the Tony Hawk pie. Even though I, personally, thought the little known Grind Session to be the superior game to Tony Hawk, Tony Hawk had the better marketing and bigger name, so it was Tony Hawk that took off. But after Grind Session, we didn’t see any real contenders to the Tony Hawk crown until Electronic Arts announced “Skate.”
Now, when I first heard of “Skate” I will admit, I was skeptical. But then Tony Hawk’s Project 8 was released, and I quickly realized that now is the prime time for someone to strike and take the Skateboarding crown from Activision. You know, much like Activision did to EA with the WWII shooters.
Set in the fictional town of San Valelona, and featuring 14 pro skateboarders (none of which the average player has heard of, I’m sure), Skate promises to be a definite departure from the Tony Hawk series. When it’s finally released, I think the age old question will be answered: Is Tony Hawk slacking off, or has the skateboarding genre as a whole tired?
