Tuesday, September 4th, 2007

banner-jwsnotes.jpg

Researchers have discovered that 45% of Americans age 12-17 spend more than two hours per day in front of their televisions, and that 1 in 7 children are classified as overweight. In other news, the sky is blue, flowers tend to smell “pretty”, and Paco loves himself some booty.

Halo 3’s Bungie.net is lookin’ sweet!

Friday, August 31st, 2007

bungienet.jpg

During the latest Bungie Weekly Update, we were given a bit of a sneak peek of what we can expect with the new Halo 3 version of Bungie.net.

Basically, here is what you can expect with the new Bungie.net. Say you take a screenshot inside Halo 3. You’ll be able to go to your PC, and when you bring up your stats page at Bungie.net, you’ll have that very same screenshot staring you back in the face.

This is part of a File Share system that, for lack of better wording, owns. You like that movie you saw on Bungie.net? Flag it, and the next time you sign on Xbox LIVE, it’ll download straight to your console. That is absolutely awesome. …I’ve been using that word a lot the past few days, haven’t I?

We’re going to be getting more and more info from Bungie over the next week or two about what all they’re doing to their site in support for Halo 3. From what we’ve seen so far, whether it be the revamped leaderboard, or the File Sharing system, we can expect Bungie to stuff their site with features out the backside in support of Halo 3.

“The Man in the Mask” TIME Magazine on Halo

Friday, August 31st, 2007

halo3-dickweeds.jpg

Halo is huge, without question. The original Halo: Combat Evolved has sold well over five million copies, and was almost single-handedly responsible for putting the original black brick, the Xbox, on the map. It’s sequel, Halo 2, sold a reported 9.2 million copies since it’s release in 2004. That brings us to Halo 3, which has already become the fastest game to reach 1 million pre-orders. When Halo 3 is finally released on September 25th, I have a working theory that every Xbox 360 console will brick inside of 72-hours.

…wait, why the hell am I giving you guys a history lesson on Halo? Y’all should know this! Moving on!

DIY Xbox 360 RRoD Fix

Wednesday, August 29th, 2007

Are you tired of sending your Xbox 360 in to Microsoft every time you get that damned RRoD? Well, if you’re good with electronics, you won’t have to. Introducing the X-Clamp Do-It-Yourself Fix Kit.

But wait, what does this fix kit do? First, you need to understand what exactly causes the RRoD in the first place. What many people believe is that the RRoD is caused when the solder connection between the GPU and the mainboard breaks, usually after a few months. This is caused because the clamp is not providing enough pressure on the heat sink to keep the motherboard connected to the GPU. What this kit does is replaces the x-shaped clamp with a more sturdy, stronger support to keep the pressure on the soldering, which will prevent it from breaking.

It’s an interesting solution to a widespread problem. However, unless you are good with your electronics, there is little to no point in doing this. Unless you’re really feed up with shipping coffin after coffin to Texas for repairs. If you’re curious, there’s a how-to video after the break.

I wish I was making this up, but alas, ’tis true — some of those who registered for the Call of Duty 4 BETA are now selling their invite codes on eBay. So far, the high bid for one of these codes is over $50, but this is sure to rise as time goes on.

New South Park deal could mean new South Park games…

Tuesday, August 28th, 2007

southpark.jpg

Trey Parker and Matt Stone have signed an agreement with Comedy Central that will keep the duo at the network until 2011. So why should we care? Because part of the new agreement includes a clause that mentions possible video games in the future.

In a joint venture that involves millions in up-front cash and a 50-50 split of ad revenues, the network and the two creative partners have agreed to create a hub to spread “South Park”-related material across the Net, mobile platforms, and video games.

Between South Park, South Park Rally, and Chef’s Luv Shack, it’s safe to say that South Park has had a rough go of it as far as video games go. Hell, I remember playing the original South Park game on the N64 back in my youth, and thinking of how cool it was that I could pelt turkeys with iceballs made out of my piss… I was a dumb ass child.

God, let there be no more South Park games! …however, appearances of characters with strikingly similar names to Kenny, Kyle, Stan and Cartman inside the next WoW expansion WILL be acceptable.

The Most Comprehensive Fallout 3 Preview, Period

Tuesday, August 28th, 2007

fallout-3.jpg

No Mutants Allowed is known as one of the most loyal, knowledgeable, and respected groups of Fallout fans on the planet Earth. By me. Others as well, but since I’m writing this it’s my opinion that matters. But I digress.

This Fallout 3 preview from No Mutants Allowed is, without a shadow of a doubt, the most comprehensive, in-depth preview yet. However, it’s not entirely a positive preview of the game.

Levine hints at possible BioShock sequel

Tuesday, August 28th, 2007

bioshocknew.jpg

In an interview with Next-Gen, Ken Levine hinted at the possibility of there being a BioShock sequel. When asked by Next-Gen whether or not there would be continuing stories in the Raptureniverse, Levine broke the question down into three seperate questions.

  • “Am I interested in continuing to work in the world?” to which Levine answered himself “Yes, I am.”
  • The second question related to whether or not there is a popular demand for more stories in the game’s universe — countless perfect review scores and astronomical sales figures answer that question.
  • The third qestion asks whether or not the story is complete. Levine stated “I think that’s the question we have to ask now.”
  • I, for one, see there being at least one BioShock sequel. The sales numbers alone will probably be enough for Take-Two to demand such a sequel. I just hope they let Levine and his team continue to work on it.

Tony Hawk’s Proving Ground Soundtrack Revealed!

Monday, August 27th, 2007

thpg.jpg

If you’re one of the people who are going to be buying the new Tony Hawk’s Proving Ground for the actual skateboarding game, this is for you — all you people buying it for the Guitar Hero III demo, just keep movin’ on.

…ok, it’s just us Tony Hawk fans now. Cool. Activision has has released the soundtrack for their next Tony Hawk entry, and it is impressive. It has a little bit fo everything, from Airbourne, to the Beastie Boys, to Nirvana, to The Rolling Stones. It has a little bit of everything.

Tim Riley, the worldwide executive of music for Activision, had this to say.

Tony Hawk’s Proving Ground continues the tradition of great music and provides the perfect vibe for players as they create their own experience, no matter what kind of skater they choose to become.

Couldn’t agree with him more, folks. This full list is nothing short of awesome. You should check it out… after the break.
