Mill o’ Rumour: Crimson Skies 3… er, 2?
The Mill o’ Rumour is churning yet again, folks. With what? Word that Crimson Skies 2, which is actually the third game in the series, is in development as we speak, and can be expected around the Holiday season, 2008. God I hope this is true. Between a new Crimson Skies game, and Star Trek XI, I would be in heaven. But I digress.
This rumor has been gaining steam thanks to a poster over at the GameFaqs message board by the name of Xanatos11. I guess the other ten were destroyed by the T-800, or something. Either way, Xanatos11 posted the following, taken from the most recent issue of OXM magazine:
Now I understand when people are immediately filled with joy at the first sight of the continuation of a loved game or such, only to be filled with doubt over rumors. Well this one actually looks promising.
In the April 2007 issue of Xbox Official Magazine you will find an article called “The 5 Biggest Games Coming to Xbox 360 That “The Man” Doesn’t Want You to Know About Yet”. Its an interesting article, written by OXM’s “Rumor Mole” but what really caught my eye was #4: Crimson Skies 2.
So after I’m done pissing myself in pure joy I decide to read the article. Heres what it says in its entirety (I would post scans, but I dont think Im allowed).

Crimson Skies 2
Developer: Airtight Games
Publisher: TBDWhat Is It?: the sequel to one of the original Xbox;s greatest underdogs: the high-flyin’ alternate-reality air-combat game Crimson Skies: High Road to Revenge.
Why It Matters?: Criticaly acclaimed but commercially wobbly, High Road to Revenge remains near and dear to many Xbox owners’ hearts. Its rich blend of arcadey aerial dogfighting, slick graphics, larger-than-life characters, and fresh multiplayer reciaved a boost when the game was bundled with the Xbox Live Starter Kit for a while. These days, it’s just popoular enough to teeter on the edge of having a sequel greenlit.
Whats Leaked So Far?: An eagle-eyed OXM forum reader (hi there, Tacubano) actually tipped off The Mole to developer Airtight games’ web page, which shows images of prototype game concepts that look devilishly like they were riped straight out of the Crimson Skies world. Also, the site’s Company Bios section lists a truckload of of former Crimson Skies team members from FASA Studio. Hell, even HRTR champion and former Xbox bigwig Ed Fries is credited as the developer’s consultant. Finally the site’s Current Project page makes this cryptic description of the company’s status: “Airtight Games is currently working with one of the industry’s leading publishers on a major unannounced title.” When it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck…
Why “The Man” Doesn’t Want You to Know About It Yet: Its merely a matter of timing. Xbox 360 needs to keep some bullets in its chamber for next year. With Halo 3, Mass Effect, Fable 2, Alan Wake, et al. already announced, the Xbox public already has a lot to chew on. Once our hunger has been satiated a bit, expect Crimson Skies 2 to finally be unvieled.
When to Expect It: Holiday 2008 or sometime in 2009
How this came to be #4 on this list is something that, truly, boggles my mind. Crimson Skies was one of the great cult hits on the original Xbox. While other games were big for a hot minute, the popularity with Crimson Skies held with it’s fanbase, and remained a popular Xbox Live (Mark 1, not current XBL) title.
