Epic Major Colossal Duke Nukem Forever News!!!!1!!1!11!

Duke Nukem FTW

Lyke, OMG yo! I gotz sum amazing noos abot duke nukem forever!!1 this guy whoze wurkin on it sez dat dey workin on it and dat it will be dun soon!!11!

…Christ, that was almost painful to type. Either way, in an interview with YouGamers, 3D Realms Scott Miller has pretty much admitted what we all knew since 2003 — they fudged up Duke Nukem Forever. In fact, he said the following:

We fully admit we’re screwed up the development of DNF, and it’s now an industry joke.” said Scott Miller. “I laugh (and cry) when I think about it, too. Our fault is that we set the bar too high, and we tried too hard to make the game to beat all games. In the last 18 months we’ve taken a much more realistic look at the project, we’ve hired a truckload of experienced help, and I personally believe we are now on the right track…finally.

…well, as I said when the Worms developers admitted they dropped the bomb: Admittance is the first step. But now 3D Realms has gone to work on Duke in an attempt to right their wrongs! Miller even told us that there would be console iterations of Forever, saying “The plan is definitely to bring DNF to multiple platforms. We have not announced which ones, yet.”

And who’d have thought in 1999 that Duke Nukem Forever’s acronym would be so prophetic? (DNF in NASCAR means “Did Not Finish” for the record)

On a final note, Miller did make a very interesting, and true, point about one of my all-time favorite game franchises:

With Max Payne, for example, we always planned for a long series. I’m still puzzled to this day why – after 3D Realms and Remedy sold the IP to Take2 – there’s not been a Max Payne 3. That’s a franchise that sold over 7 million copies between two games. We should be hearing about Max 4 in development by now.

Hell. Yes.
