banner-t3h-w31rd.jpg

This week was kind of slow, so it’s a mixture of w31rdness and a quick list of my five personal favorite video game commercials to ever grace the television. This week features your favorite Marvel Superheroes as zombies, we find out that Dr. Gregory House is a gamer, we see the coolest car of all time PLUS, again, the top five video game commercials of all time… and four of them suck.

Oh, and Duke Nukem Forever news, too.

This is “t3h w31rd”.

I wish I was making this up, but alas, ’tis true — some of those who registered for the Call of Duty 4 BETA are now selling their invite codes on eBay. So far, the high bid for one of these codes is over $50, but this is sure to rise as time goes on.

G4’s Matt Keil claims D’toid “making shit up” regarding negative Mass Effect preview.

Saturday, August 25th, 2007

mass-effect.jpg

It has been a long-standing fact that the internet is, indeed, serious business. This is a perfect example of that. Saturday, Destructoid writer “Orcist” posted his thoughts on the upcoming Bioware RPG Mass Effect. In this post, he states that he believed the presentation was lacking, especially in the “emotionless voice acting and subpar facial animations”, and went on to say that “At worst, Mass Effect is disappointing.”

Naturally, this negative preview has sparked mass rioting across all the internet, plaguing message boards everywhere with “zomg estructoid is suxxors!”. However, there is a single voice crying foul in all of this. A single voice of fanboy hope everywhere!

X-Play Writer/Producer Matt Keil.

J Allard Owns Your Mother

Thursday, August 23rd, 2007

j-allard.jpgJ Allard (seen left, looking gangsta) is one of the hardest men alive. He once went toe-to-toe with Chuck Norris in Dance Dance Revolution. The game ended with both men, teary eyed, embracing each other in a hug consisting of so much sheer manliness that a twelve year-old who looked directly at the pair spontaneously combusted into green flame.

Ars Technica’s Jon Stokes openly recognizes the awesomeness that is Allard by compiling the top ten things that we, the people, do not know about Mr. Allard. The DDR-off is not included.

murder.jpg

A fourteen year-old North Carolina boy is lucky to be alive tonight after nearly killing himself in an attempt to cool off his Xbox 360.

According to the Darwin Award-nominated child’s mother, the Xbox 360 console would continuously shut off after about five minutes of use. Finally, the child went online and found a possible solution for remedying this by cooling off the power supply. Take it away, mom!

Sony fanboy reviews Bioshock; hilarity ensues

Monday, August 20th, 2007

NOTE: Notice the PS3 text? Yeah, it’ll make sense. Just read on.

bioshockps3.jpg

There is no denying it: BioShock owns your entire face. Every video game review for what will surely be the game of the year has awarded it scores averaging out to, according to GameRankings, 98%. To put that in perspective, the (almost) unanimous choice for “Greatest Game of All Time”, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, averages out at a 97.6, rounding up to 98%.

However, you’re always going to have your critics, and BioShock is no different. What makes this so special is that the only person who is complaining about BioShock is, as you probably would’ve guessed, a PS3 fanboy.

Space Giraffe gets Shorted in Review

Monday, August 20th, 2007

i have no clue what is going on in this picture
A quick background on Space Giraffe, this is an Xbox Live Arcade game that is only going to run you 400 points ($5) and from the information I had of it, it seemed good. The game runs on an engine that will remind you of the old Atari game Tempest, shooting down enemies, however having that Geometry Wars type crazy colorful graphics flare. A basic game, but at the right cost, it is coming out Wednesday (22nd) and so we all can just try it for ourselves.

Now that you know what it is, here is the amusing news coming from a review of the game put out by the Official Xbox Magazine (#75). Senior Editor Dan Amrich can be quoted from the review as saying something as bad as “Actually made us angry when we played it.” He sites problems of the visibility of enemies vs the backgrounds and ends the review with “Just really bad. Lacks a single redeeming quality, and or it’s busted to varying degrees in its own design, quality or basic functionality. No gamer of any stripe should bother.” Ouch, what a negative nancy. I know that OXM doesn’t have to post only high scores for games just because of the name of the magazine, but man, I don’t recall ever seeing a score that low.

Master Chief Sucks Again, Now at Halo 2

Sunday, August 19th, 2007

so sadWhile some people have to prepare to get their Halo 3 on, others, have gone back to just playing Halo 2. Such is the case of the great gamer Master Chief, who was originally brought to our attention with the video of him playing the through YouTube user . He is now back at it again with a new video giving us a day in the life of the Chief as he finds out the beta is over and must resort to popping in Halo 2 again, don’t get jealous of how awesome he is, even taking notes from my own play book on such great moves as killing my teammate in case he took the weapon I want.

banner-t3h-w31rd.jpg

It’s been a most interesting week, hasn’t it? This whole damn week has been one giant “t3h w31rd” segment. After all, when one of the most anticipated games of the year gets released a week early by the largest toy retail chain in the nation… it tends to make a few headlines. It almost seems like we’ve heard SOMETHING about BioShock every day this week.

So, it is with that in mind that I promise you all a BioShock FREE Edition of “t3h w31rd”.
