All-Pro Has Gone Gold!
Ladies and Gentlemen, it’s coming. When 2K Sports broke the news on All Games Interactive many moons ago, people were excited. After all, those who loved the 2K series before EA bought the exclusive rights to the NFL were livid because their game, which just happened to be the superior series, was seemingly no more. Well, 2K didn’t let something like a league license stop them, and they are back with All-Pro Football 2K8.
You can pick up your copy on July 17th for both the Xbox 360 and the PS3. You can find the official press release after the break.
K Sports, the sports publishing label of Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc., announced today that All-Pro Football 2K8 has officially gone gold for both Xbox 360™ video game and entertainment system from Microsoft and PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system.
Featuring over 240 well-known football legends including Jerry Rice, John Elway and Barry Sanders, All-Pro Football 2K8 delivers a realistic football experience. Each player features the special abilities and unique characteristic traits that made each of them gridiron legends. Whether it’s the scissor kick hesitation moves of Walter Payton, the quick release of Dan Marino, or ferocious hits of Jack Tatum, gamers will feel an instant attachment to their favorite football players in All-Pro Football 2K8.
All-Pro Football 2K8 also features incredibly robust customization features that allow players to tailor visual aspects for each football team. Whether it’s changing team names, uniform number style, facemask appearance, the colors of the logo, or home stadium location, there are thousands of different team combinations that will give each user their own unique identity.
Online play and customizations are also key innovative features for All-Pro Football 2K8. Team and player customizations made offline can be taken online where gamers will see thousands of unique teams in both visual style and player selections. Players can take their created players online, a first in a 2K Sports football title, for online play and to participate in an online tournament or online leagues that support up to 32 players, to make All-Pro Football 2K8 one of the most unique online sports experiences.
All-Pro Football 2K8 will be available July 17, 2007 for the Xbox 360™ video game and entertainment system from Microsoft and PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system. All-Pro Football 2K8 is rated E10+ for Everyone 10 and older.

No franchise mode, huh? My hopes have been crashed. I’m a huge fan of 2K5 (I still play it in lieu of any Madden nonsense), but what I love most about 2K5 is the deep franchise mode.
What possessed them to NOT include franchise mode, I’m not sure. It would seem that a lack of an NFL license wouldn’t be that great a deterrent as most players in franchise mode, especially after a couple of years, are completely fictional anyways (I tend to dump named player contracts and use the draft to rebuild my team where I can screw star players with 7 year $700,000 contracts).
Franchise mode is a staple in every modern sports game, yet it is left out of this one, a fact that will keep me from buying the game, regardless of how well the gameplay might be. I hope that 2K will implement a franchise mode in next year’s iteration of the game, or I may have t wait until EA’s contract runs out (assumming they don’t renew it in 2009) in order to upgrade from 2K5 (the sole reason I keep my original Xbox).
2K8 without franchise mode is essentially crippled. No one I know would even consider a football game without franchise, and neither will I. 2K sports missed the boat. Hopefully they will catch it next year.
