Could you transfer data from one harddrive to another, without the Transfer Cable?
Are you one of the people who bought a 360 Elite? Well, you may have noticed that you can’t exactly transfer everything over unless you’re on Xbox Live. Not to mention you have to wait to receive the free transfer cable that you have to send in for (which, by the way, you can learn how to obtain HERE). But even with the cable, there have been many instances where people have complained about the inability to get the full, unlocked game from the transfer. So, how do you go about getting all your stuff transferred from your old, obsulete 20GB hard drive to the new, fancy 120GB unit without all this hassle? About.com has a simple answer for you — use a memory card.
It’s simple, really. All you really have to do is plug your memory card into the machine while your 20GB drive is in, and transfer the data onto the memory card. When the card is full, simply turn the console off, switch drives, boot her back up, and just transfer from the card to the new drive. I suggest you use one of those newfangled 512MB cards, since you’ll be able to save Arcade games on the larger cards and will still be able to play them offline. Once your saved data is transferred, you can copy your Gamer Profile over.
Now, after reading this I decided to try it. And I admit, it worked… until I signed on to Xbox Live. Now that my connection to Xbox Live is severed, I can’t play any of my games offline. So essentially, I wasted twenty minutes of my life for jack squat, and I will never get that time back. That’s time I could’ve been cooking burritos, or something.
Sure, I give the About.com guys props for the idea, but in the end it just doesn’t work.
Moral of this story: Order the damn cable, and wait the week.
