Viking - First Screens and Info on this Norse Mythology Based Title

Tuesday, August 21st, 2007

The Norse Gods are fighting in Asgard (the Gods land), and now it is spilling over into Midgard (people land.. c’mon, Wikipedia this stuff, I can’t explain everything to you). Odin’s daughter Freya chooses a “troubled young warrior” named Skarin to stop Loki and his daughter Hel. You, get to play as Skarin. Game play will take place on huge, living islands, free form worlds, and epic battles will be had! This new title will feature rich viking lore and mythology, vast open world environments for you to fight and explore, a “brutal” combat engine where you will be able to dismember enemies, and mythical powers, where you will even be able to control dragons to attack your enmeies as well as call upon the Gods. Get ready to free your viking people and help end the Gods crazy war in this bad ass game. Check the exclusive screens below, click to expand them to their full 1280×720 goodness, then read a full press release about the game after the break:

Jericho - Clive Barker Hires “God of War” Composer to for Game Soundtrack - Take a Listen

Friday, August 17th, 2007

Cris Velasco who worked on both God of War and God of War II, provided the beautifully composed music for what is no doubt going to be a great original FPS, Jericho. Clive Barker hand picked Velasco with these kind words about this music, “Filled with yearning, dark energy, threat and redemption, it is the unstoppable engine in the terrifying ghost train of Jericho.” Below is a video featuring a taste of his music, as well as some game play that is a mixture of Gears of War and Resident Evil, two games I wouldn’t have thought before would make a nice amalgam, but as you will see, it is looking to be a title worthy of a purchase this October.

In addition to that lovely new video, there are four brand new screenshots of this title that are pretty large, so if you are in the mood for a new eerie wallpaper, look no further than down:

Borderlands - 2K Games Next Big FPS - *yawn* .. This is No Bioshock

Friday, August 17th, 2007

Lets see, new first person shooter (lord knows we don’t have enough of them), set in the future/sci-fi, four player co-op, not coming out till fourth quarter 2008. I have no doubts in the end this will be a solid game, but, too little too late. I hope by the end of next year we are already having fun with 8-player co-op in games. The one interesting thing about this title to set it apart from others is the missions will be randomly generated, how this will play out remains to be seen. Two screens were sent out along with a press release (after the break).

More Soul Calibur IV Screens. Commence Drooling Now.

Thursday, August 16th, 2007

scbanner.jpg

We’ve covered Soul Calibur IV a lot here at X360R. We were one of the first sites to officially break the news that Soul Calibur IV was headed to the Xbox 360. We also took great joy in seeing the first trailer for SC IV… me more than most *cough*. And of course, we were one of the first sites to notice the sudden “augmentations” done to the Soul Calibur IV women.

These new images of SC IV are really more of the same. We get some good looks at Sophitia and Cassandra, as well as a nice look at the ever-sexy Voldo.

EA - How Far Will Gamers Allow Them to Go?

Thursday, August 16th, 2007

Wow, I have never seen one company screw up so many times in one day, where oh where to begin.. lets start off small. First we have the “Bullshotted” screenshot Joystiq was able to point out. The term from Penny Arcade refers to a ‘bullshit photoshop’ of a screen made by the company themselves, below is a screen from NBA Live ‘08 from Gamespot, click to enlarge and take note of the player all the way to the left:

eanbabullshot_thumb.jpg

Pretty sad isn’t it. Something so basic, really, insulting our intelligence almost as though people wouldn’t notice, I can’t believe a company so large would be able to let something like that slip. That is just the start of their slipping however, as seen in the video below put out by gamer “,” bugs are definitely let through until the final build of their newest big thing, Madden ‘08. (Warning: there is tad bit of foul language used, so make sure to put the ear muffs on the kids if they are in the room)

Out the Way Forza, One Side Project Gotham, Sega Rally Revo is Here!

Tuesday, August 14th, 2007

I am a fan of racing games, just not racing sims. Give me a Mario Kart or Beetle Adventure Racing over Gran Turismo any day. Right now the 360 doesn’t give many options in this portion of the racing genre, what, Fatal Inertia (bloowwwwss). Well it looks Sega is here to help with a little arcade racing action, yet remembering to look pretty doesn’t hurt either. Using real cars and level design that just screams to me that their might be a shortcut around that tree, check out the first trailer for the game below (and after the break, take a gander at some huge screen shots Sega has given to The Rally):

Pirates and Ninjas take their fued to the battlefields of DODGEBALL! UPDATE!

Monday, August 13th, 2007

pvndodgeball.jpg

After the release of the incredibly awesome Saints Row for the Xbox 360, many members of the Volition team that developed Saints Row, as well as other beautifully gorific titles as Red Faction and The Punisher, left to form their own developer studio, Blazing Lizard.

So what would the first game to be released by a developer house formed almost entirely of men who specialize in simulating death in glorious fashion? Dodgeball, naturally.

TimeShift - New Video, New Screens - Coming October

Thursday, August 9th, 2007

The title that has been in the works since 2006 has new media for you to enjoy as the time for its release draws near. IGN has 3 new videos up for this great looking title. Embedded below is one that really highlights lighting effects, water effects (nice rain), and most importantly, the time effects. Showing the character chucking a grenade at an enemy, slowing down time, and mutilating him with a spray of bullets in mid air. It is very nice looking. This is coming in October, I feel so bad for it being wrapped around all the other big titles, still, for a person who likes a more thinking man puzzle here and there type first person shooter, this might be a better buy than the ‘lets just shoot stuff’ Halo 3, at the least, throw it in your Gamefly que and just keep it in mind, it looks worth playing. New screens after the break.

Technical Difficulties

Wednesday, August 8th, 2007

The servers are melting. Paco spilled his cola on the keyboard. JW’s out back trying to wrangle the horses. In short, we’re all kinds of FUBAR, so we may not be able to update as much as we’d like today.

Sorry, peeps. We’ll be back soon.

New Halo 3 Famitsu Images

Tuesday, August 7th, 2007

The GameTrailers message board is where internet discussion goes to die. But even in the midst of the eight million “omg wich iz betr halo 3 or cod4?!” threads (you know who you are), every once in a while a diamond is found in the rough. Such is the case here, as GameTrailers user “cherdman” has posted scans from the most recent issue of Japanese super-mag “Famitsu” showing us new images of Halo 3.

If you can speak Japanese, maybe you could let us know exactly what is being said?

Click the thumbnails to see the full image.

Official Retraction of SEGA TGS Rumor

Sunday, August 5th, 2007

banner-jwsnotes.jpg

There has been a lot of controversy regarding a recently posted rumor regarding SEGA’s possible Tokyo Game Show line-up. Now, I was originally very defensive of this piece because of who sent it in. He, a long-time go-to guy named Rob, has sent me exclusive tips for four years, and until this most recent one, they were ALL accurate.

Regardless, after the link had been posted by reader “Cedge”, I immediately contacted Rob via GoogleIM.

Army of Two - The Gears of War Killer !?

Wednesday, August 1st, 2007

Who am I kidding, nothing can kill Gears. Released last Tuesday was a new trailer for Army of Two, mixing real footage with game footage in a very cool looking way. Today Gamersyde offered up 4 new images. Here are both in one neat package. Some background info if you need some on this game, it is going to be released Nov 15th, a bad time for any game, as they will be left in the aftermath of Halo 3 and GTAIV, still, this game is looking quite beautiful, similar to Gears of War in that it is a co-op focused game and a third person shooter, however it looks like it may pass Gears graphically and definitely storywise. Check out the clip, then see the pics below.

Speedball II: Brutal Deluxe Coming to XBLA - 6 Extremely High Res Screens

Friday, July 27th, 2007

arrrrgh

Speedball II: Brutal Deluxe is coming to XBLA, thanks to the reuniting of the Bitmap Brothers. This game, well over 15 years old, was best known for its Genesis version imo, but has been on the Amiga, CD 32, Acorn Archimedes, IBM-PC, Atari ST, Commodore 64, Sega Mega Drive, Master System, Game Boy and the Game Boy Advance, as well as having other versions of the game appear on the Playstation (Speedball 2100) and the PC. However, for some reason, I still know few people who know of this game, but I believe that will change thanks to the Live Arcade, you all know you try every demo that comes out! Enjoy these very huge screenshots that show how much work has gone into changing this from a Genesis game to the XBLA title, thanks to Empire Interactive, also a full press release after the shots (note: let me emphasis “very huge” when describing these screens)

CSI: Hard Evidence - Trailer and Screens

Tuesday, July 24th, 2007

This is looking to be the thinking man’s Grand Theft Auto, which I am not too sure is a good thing, but I am sure (or at least I am hoping) the puzzles in the game will be top notch. Below is the trailer, 4 new screens under the video:
