New Releases: Week of August 27th, 2007

Monday, August 27th, 2007

banner-new-releases.jpg

Last week was a fairly bare week as far as new releases go. Sure, you had BioShock, but really… that was about it. Oh, and Two Worlds, but who gives a crap about that, right? Anyways, here is the release list for this week — minus Stranglehold.

Blue Dragon
Moto GP 2007
Dynasty Warriors GUNDAM
Stuntman Ignition
Tiger Woods PGA Tour 08

I don’t see anything overly impressive. Blue Dragon will be big for the RPG fans out there, but outside that… nothing. If you’re one of those who buy Dynasty Warriors GUNDAM, you’re part of the problem.

New Geometry Wars Exclusive to PGR4

Thursday, August 23rd, 2007

geometrywars.jpg

Bizarre Creations has revealed that a new Geometry Wars, entitled Geometry Wars: Waves, will be included in the upcoming Xbox 360 racing game Project Gotham Racing 4.

Unlike the previous version of Geometry Wars, this version will NOT be released over Xbox LIVE, and will instead be an exclusive you can only get when you buy a copy of PGR4. So, as if you didn’t have reason enough to buy what will almost certainly be the best racing game of the year, there’s another little added incentive.

Viking - First Screens and Info on this Norse Mythology Based Title

Tuesday, August 21st, 2007

The Norse Gods are fighting in Asgard (the Gods land), and now it is spilling over into Midgard (people land.. c’mon, Wikipedia this stuff, I can’t explain everything to you). Odin’s daughter Freya chooses a “troubled young warrior” named Skarin to stop Loki and his daughter Hel. You, get to play as Skarin. Game play will take place on huge, living islands, free form worlds, and epic battles will be had! This new title will feature rich viking lore and mythology, vast open world environments for you to fight and explore, a “brutal” combat engine where you will be able to dismember enemies, and mythical powers, where you will even be able to control dragons to attack your enmeies as well as call upon the Gods. Get ready to free your viking people and help end the Gods crazy war in this bad ass game. Check the exclusive screens below, click to expand them to their full 1280×720 goodness, then read a full press release about the game after the break:

banner-new-releases.jpg

It’s not a very busy week this week for the Xbox 360. In fact, there’re only two games due out, and odds are you probably already own one of them:

–> BioShock <–
Two Worlds

Hmm… I wonder which game people are psyched for… hmmm…

Toys “R” Us takes massive damage, releases BioShock early

Wednesday, August 15th, 2007

bigdaddykoolaid.jpg

Ah! Chaos! Absolute chaos! Ah! The sky is falling! The sky is falling! *pant, pant*

Ok, ok. Let me explain. There seems to be a wee bit of a mix-up regarding the upcoming GOTY BioShock. You see, according to 2K Games, Gamestop, Best Buy, Circuit City, Wal-Mart, and everyone else under the sun, BioShock isn’t supposed to be released for another week or so. Yet, there are people playing it right now!

HAPPY MADDENOLIDAY!

Tuesday, August 14th, 2007

maddenhutt.jpg

Happy Maddenoliday, everybody! I can assure you that productivity will sink through the damn floor by tomorrow, as everyone and their sickly, crippled aunties will be getting their pigskin on! …man, that made absolutely no sense. Either way, as of right… NOW, Madden NFL 08 is officially available at online retailers and electronics retailers everywhere.

So why are you still reading this? Madden is out NOW! Whether you get the Xbox 360 version or the PS3 version… or the Wii version… or the PS2, Gamecube, Xbox, PC, Mac, DS or PSP versions… buy it!

On a side note: Am I the only one who feels like EA is completely whoring Madden’s name? I mean, come on — GAMECUBE version? No one should be playing their Gamecube anymore.

…oh yeah, there’s also some cell phone game and an old Genesis game about a dolphin coming out this week on the Arcade, but come on — MADDEN!

Assassins Creed Collector’s Edition Revealed

Monday, August 13th, 2007

assassinscreedbanner.jpg

Assassin’s Creed is lookin’ sexier and sexier every time I see it. It’s also been one of the most anticipated games coming for the Xbox 360. So it shouldn’t surprise anyone that we’re getting a Collector’s Edition of Assassin’s Creed, and Ubisoft today released the first images of the upcoming limited edition of the game.

While I don’t see the Penny Arcade comics or the figure of Altair that were told to be included (in the booklet, perhaps?) you can easily see the bonus DVD that will have the making-of documentaries, as well as the tin case.

Activision confirms Proving Ground Demo

Thursday, August 9th, 2007

thpg.jpg

That is the final box art for the next entry in the long running (and long winded) Tony Hawk franchise, Tony Hawk’s Proving Ground. Activision also confirmed with TeamXbox that there will be a single-player demo of THPG coming to the Xbox LIVE Arcade in the coming weeks.

Personally, I’m done with Tony Hawk. Have been for a while. But if you’re a fan of the franchise, or just love skateboarding in general… go for it.

Technical Difficulties

Wednesday, August 8th, 2007

The servers are melting. Paco spilled his cola on the keyboard. JW’s out back trying to wrangle the horses. In short, we’re all kinds of FUBAR, so we may not be able to update as much as we’d like today.

Sorry, peeps. We’ll be back soon.

XBLA - GEON:emotions, Hexic 2, Geometry Wars 2 - Buy it! Buy it! BUY IT!

Monday, August 6th, 2007

Though not exactly the games I want on XBLA, there is a good line up of titles, one coming really soon, the others on the horizon, that will be hitting our hard drives. These three specifically have been hitting the game sites recently, so lets take a quick gander of what is to come:
GEON emotions
GEON:emotions: Being published by Eidos, this title will actually make you go through different emotions of game play (rage, passion, fear, envy, rapture, courage, bliss, and melancholy). Yup, I am not sure if I understand what that means either. From the videos I have watched (click here to see one), you are going to control a cube that is on a grid of sorts, you collect things, you can move under the grid. This honestly reminds me of a flash game, a really extremely advanced flash game (advanced graphically and gamewise). This game will feature multiplayer and bad ass trippy visuals with no doubt good music to boot. Release date: Before the end of the year.
Hexic 2
Hexic 2: I’m so excited (). Hexic was the first game I ever got all the achievements for, and rightly so, I had to prove to the world that I am the ultimate fan of Alexey Pajitnov, the man behind Tetris, and of course, Hexic. This new Hexic will bring the classic modes from the original, multiplayer battle mode (woot) that has special powers to affect your opponent. With Alexey working on this, I am expecting this to really be catered perfectly to the puzzle game fans. Release date: Sometime this month!

Track & Field on the XBLA Wednesday

Monday, August 6th, 2007

track-and-field.jpg

When ‘Track & Field’ was released back in the 1980s in the Arcade (as well as the NES), it was quickly endeared by it’s gaming audience. Of course, Track & Field is also blamed for the great arthritis epidemec of the late 80s, as hundreds of hours of doing nothing but tapping the A and B buttons ravaged the hands of millions.

Well, now a new generation can prepare themselves for on the field greatness, as Track & Field will be making it’s arrival on the Xbox LIVE Arcade! Featuring both the original and enhanced versions of the classic, this time around you’ll be able to play over LIVE with three of your friends.

Track & Field will be available for download this Wednesday for a cool (and cheap) 400 MS Points.

Official Retraction of SEGA TGS Rumor

Sunday, August 5th, 2007

banner-jwsnotes.jpg

There has been a lot of controversy regarding a recently posted rumor regarding SEGA’s possible Tokyo Game Show line-up. Now, I was originally very defensive of this piece because of who sent it in. He, a long-time go-to guy named Rob, has sent me exclusive tips for four years, and until this most recent one, they were ALL accurate.

Regardless, after the link had been posted by reader “Cedge”, I immediately contacted Rob via GoogleIM.

300 comes to the Marketplace on August 14th, Heroes DLC as well

Thursday, July 26th, 2007

xbox-300.jpg
First Mentioned HERE, with the HD-DVD Price-Drop!

When I sat in the movie theatre with my friend Krystle all those many moons ago, watching King Leonidas ripping through faceless Persians and Ninjas, I knew I was watching the manliest thing EVER! In fact, the only thing that could make it more manly was if I were in my living room, watching it in HD while eating raw flesh with my bare hands.

Well, my dream will finally come true, as Microsoft has announced that the Frank Miller graphic novel-turned-graphic film ‘300‘ will be making it’s way to the Xbox LIVE Video Marketplace on August 14th, and will indeed be available in beautiful HD.

Buff men killing Persians in their underwear and capes not your thing? Ok. Fair enough, sissy. Microsoft has you covered, too. In advance of the release of the Heroes: Season 1 HD-DVD box set, we Xbox LIVE members will be able to download, for free, the pilot episode in stunning, sensationa, spectacular HD! …only for a limited time, however.

If that isn’t enough Heroes goodness for you, never fear! You’ll also be able to download trailers, teasers and other promotional materials highlighting the DVD box set. So at long last ladies, you can finally act out those Hiro fantasies from the comfort of your own couch.

Bow chica wah wah!

Virtua Fighter 5. October 30th. BUY IT!

Wednesday, July 25th, 2007

vf5-copy.jpg

As if we needed another game to help us be broke come Christmas time, here is Virtua Fighter 5! The PS3 crowd has been able to get their Kung-Fu on for a few months now, and come October 30th, we’ll be able to get our Kung-Fu on, too.

But, unlike it’s older PS2 brother, the Xbox 360 version of VF5 will have online support via Xbox Live, featuring a leaderboard and some rather peculiar DLC. One notable online feature is the ability to DL video of the top VF5 players in action, so you can best get a feel for their fighting style.

Other changes include more training options in the dijo, more rivals in the quest mode, and the game itself will run on the latest arcade hardware revision. In short — somehow, someway it’ll look better on the 360.

So, come October 30th, you better have your nickels and dimes scrimped and saved, because you now have something to pick up alongside your copy of Call of Duty 4.

CSI: Hard Evidence - Trailer and Screens

Tuesday, July 24th, 2007

This is looking to be the thinking man’s Grand Theft Auto, which I am not too sure is a good thing, but I am sure (or at least I am hoping) the puzzles in the game will be top notch. Below is the trailer, 4 new screens under the video:
